      SAMPLE DATA FIELD:
      General Note:
A reinvested affiliate of both Compal Electronics Inc. and Quanta Computer Inc.
Handset shipments grew recently based on new color GPRS phone products for China OEMs. Expects its second smartphone to enter mass production in the third quarter of next year. The handset, code-named the AR22 will feature Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 OS and a Texas Instruments (TI) OMAP 730 processor. The clamshell handset will also come equipped with a built-in digital camera.
Will not consider developing a smartphone running on a competing smartphone operating system in the near future due to limited production capacity. All of the company’s handset manufacturing takes place at its Pingchen, Taoyuan County factory in Taiwan. Monthly production capacity is 500K units. Plans to launch more than 10 handsets in 2004. Among these new models, color handsets will account for about half wherein 80% will feature a built-in camera.
Its strong ODM relationship with Motorola and its China manufacturing capacity is expected to drive increased value of its mid-end handset segment and higher revenue growth for 2005. It projects a 48% increase in sales from 2004 figures. It does not see Chi Mei as prepared for the ODM volume required by Motorola and it does not consider Panasonic as a key player. It takes pride in its scalability and competitive pricing position. It could supply a minimum of 15M handset units, 90% for Motorola in 05.
Noted fluctuations in sales of 04 was influenced heavily by Motorola. It registered 1.2M shipments in the 1H, 2M in 3Q and 5M in 4Q. Stability is projected by 1H05. Its 2.5M unit projection for the first 2 months is considered reasonable. Component providers project about 3M units from Compal – the projection may even be pegged now at 3.5M units in 1Q05.
Fears low Motorola handset sales that may mean low volume orders for Compal.
